Customers of us sometimes walk on to the nursery and watch the trials we have of our cross breeding programm. This clematis caught the attention long before the plant was named and introduced. And customers were eager to buy this wonderful new clematis even without a name.

The consideration for this name was very simple; because this clematis can be classified in the Texensis Group it was logical to use PRINCESS as part of the name as Clematis 'Princess Diana' is one of the most popular clematis for its flower shape and name. The benefit would be that the new PRINCESS name would appear alphabetically together in stock lists, in catalogues, etc. We were busy for searching a good name in 2011 when the news appeared that Princes William was planning to marry and so the name was quickly decided.
An interesting fact about the name PRINCESS KATE is that the title of the wife of Prince William is not princess; her title is Duchess of Cambridge. And her name is not Kate but Catherine. But the name PRINCESS KATE was created by the media and everybody in the world nows her by that name.

The colour in the flower, white on the inside and red on the outside, is unique in the Texensis Group. The Texensis Group can be easily recognized by its upright flowers in a tulip-shape form. The combination of this unique flower colour with the name has led that Clematis PRINCESS KATE had been awarded with a Gold Medal and Best New Introduction at Plantarium 2012.
